As the name suggests, CaliYork is the perfect blend of east and west coasts. The RnB and Soul duo comprises DJ Tony Touch, and Austin Brown, who put their musical talents together in 2016.
Touch is a DJ veteran and pioneer, having spun for Eminem among other global artists, including Snoop Dogg and P. Diddy. Austin Brown, conversely, got his start by posting covers on social media, and seeing his following grow massively when he started releasing his own music. Nowadays, he also produces for other artists, in addition to his own tunes.
CaliYork’s latest single, ‘Ride’, comes with a New York City based music video, switching between the studio, the streets, and scenes in underground clubs. Shot in black and white, it has old skool production values, which work well with Caliyork’s style, perfectly capturing Brown’s vocals and Touch’s “golden era of hip hop” stylings. At the same time, it’s altogether modern, with the monochromatic clip 4K crisp and clean in a way that wasn’t possible with 80s video recording equipment. The song also features Brian London, and Styles P, the latter of whom drops rhymes like they were hot buttered potatoes,
Real lucky I got a gym hat
I work you out like a gym rag
Smooth and sensual, CaliYork are taking no prisoners with this song, which is sure to find an audience with lovers of both RnB and raw OG hip hop.
