Lila Drew – ‘take it back’

Lila Drew’s latest single, ‘take it back’, is a fine example of what this young artist is capable of. A familiar and welcoming song, it is nonetheless unable to be classified by genre, transcending RnB, dream pop, and soul, among other musical styles.

Although Lila is still only a teenager she’s already managed to take hold of a deep understanding of what motivates people, and she has applied this to her debut EP, ‘locket (side one)’. Lila has had help from some of the best producers and musicians in the business, including Michael McGarity (Lana Del Rey, FKA twigs), Matt Hales (Lianna La Havas), Jeff Shum (Ella Mae), Keith Askey (Syd), and Mac & Phil (Emeli Sandé).

The video for ‘take it back’, shot by Weird Life Films, is a hallucination, in which a young woman is chased around a deserted neighbourhood at night. An unnerving beauty encounters her, brilliant, vibrant light, which the viewer has to determine if it’s a dream or a daylight reverie.
