Olly Murs’ latest and sixth studio album, ‘You Know I Know’ saw sales of close to 50,000 copies in its first two weeks, and hit the top 3 on the UK Official Charts. Now he’s released the video for possibly his most heart-wrenching single, ‘Excuses’. The track is available now from RCA Records.
‘Excuses’, written by Olly, Steve Robson, and Grace Barker, sees the singer at his most fragile and emotional. When we reviewed the album back in November we said it was “a bit of a ballad, showcasing his voice, and giving a little bit of an insight into his state of mind.” It’s a departure from the upbeat pop side of Olly we know, and it’s a welcome one, giving Olly the opportunity to show off his vocal chops. The video is a stunning visual opening with Olly singing in a starkly black room, before we enter what appears to be a dream sequence for the bridge where he’s plummeting downwards through a stormy sky. It’s like a look inside his mental state as he’s thinking about the situation, and fits completely with the theme of the song.
Olly Murs made a triumphant return last night as a coach on The Voice, alongside fellow coaches, Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson, and has also announced a 21 date tour for this May and June, which will see him perform across the UK and Ireland, including two dates in each of Glasgow, Nottingham, Birmingham, and London. Tickets and further details are available from Gigs and Tours, and Ticketmaster.
