‘Breakfast For 2’ is the latest single from SadGirl, and it takes a look back at an earlier chapter in the band’s career. Their sound was established back in 2015 with their release ‘Breakfast Is Over’ – dreamy and lovelorn. ‘Breakfast For 2’ is still as heartbroken, but with a ramped up lushness. It’s their first release for Northwestern label Suicide Squeeze.
The video for ‘Breakfast For 2’ was shot by The Giraffe Sisters, multimedia artists with an underground cachet. Nicky and Juliana Giraffe share the same aesthetic sensibility of SadGirl frontman Misha Lindes: the allure of old Hollywood and its weirdness, the mystique of the past. Overall the entire clip feels as though it’s been pulled from some long lost footage found on the cutting room floor. The clip appears to have been shot down through the lens of a box camera – it’s a great effect and really adds to the vintage quality of the video. It also looks as if it was a lot of fun to shoot!
The song itself is relaxed and laid back, with the vocals evoking a similar feel to the video: it’s a late 50s early 60s doo-wap sound, with plucked and slide guitar. We love it!
