FMFL is a multi-instrumentalist, mixing engineer, and dream pop producer. His latest album, ‘Functional Music For Lovers’ was written during a time of hardship, and the emotional composition marks a change of direction for the artist, who previously focused on more exerimental music.
‘Functional Music For Lovers’ takes influence from Beach House and Björk, as well as the soundtracks of FMFL’s childhood video games. The album is peppered with composite synthetic textures, warm, meandering vocal lines that delve into the realm of delicacy and ever changing yet compelling drum patterns.
FMFL sets himself apart from the rest as he exists in his own universe in a pixel art aesthetic, where we can observe the almost extra-human FMFL 8-bit Avatar, in short minimalistic pixel animations which inspire a sense of wonder and sympathy that remains relevant on a universal level.
FMFL has set out to convey a message throughout his album focusing not on the commercial aspect of released music, but rather on celebrating vulnerability. ‘Functional Music For Lovers’ is set for release on August 8 and and will be available on all major streaming and downloading services.
