‘Y DNT U CM VST ME?????’ – Onny Parun and Silver Fern

Onny Parun is best known for reaching the finals of the 1973 Australian Open, as well as the Wimbledon quarter finals in both 1971 and 1972. The 69 year old New Zealander has recently however revealed a talent for songwriting and videography, and has teamed up with UK based New Zealand rock band, Silver Fern, on his song, ‘Y DNT U CM VST ME?????’.

Parun is a passionate social commentator, and with this track he explores the evolution of language, particularly that used for communicating via text. ‘Y DNT U CM VST ME?????’ is a direct response to the miscommunication that can sometimes happen when using this form of messaging, and with Silver Fern the song is interpreted as a raw rock anthem, with a pop twist. The vocals remind us of Roy Orbison, and it’s been teamed up with a lyric video written entirely in txt spk.
