The third album by singer songwriter Daniel Pearson, ‘Alone, Together’ was released earlier this year. His previous albums, ‘Satellites’ and ‘Mercury State’ won the indie artist international press praise, and built up a large and loyal worldwide fanbase.

‘Alone, Together’ comprises nine songs, and covers the last two years of his life. Pearson got married, left his job as an English teacher to become an independent musician, saw his music spread by word of mouth to countless new fans via social media, and became father to his first child. It’s not all been plain sailing however, with Daniel battling against a rare and lethal form of eye cancer. The result is an album which is at once joyous and melancholic, communal, and solitary.

‘Hymn For The Hopeless’ opens the album, setting the tone for the record with sparse acoustics. Combined with Pearson’s distinctive vocals, it soon builds layers of strings and guitar interwoven to stunning effect.

‘The Bridge’ is a driving piece of classic rock, reminiscent of Springsteen, while ‘Rivers’ is a joyously optimistic – defiantly so – fusion of country stomp with garage rock, with more than a cursory nod to Fleetwood Mac.

‘As Deep As Love’, ‘I Still Believe’ and ‘The Open Sea’ are raw, hard, and powerful: with ‘I Still Believe’ in particular conveying the angst felt by someone who had it all and then had something threaten to dash it all.

‘War Stories and Circles’ are anthems seeking meaning and purpose in adulthood, whilst ‘Come Back Around’ closes the album while expressing Pearson’s take on life as a new father.
