The Essential Weekly Playlist of: Peppermint Heaven

We’ve had a good working relationship with Peppermint Heaven for several years now, and they even did an Essential Weekly Playlist for us back in 2016. The duo comprising Juno and Spark, based in Los Angeles, are strongly influenced by the likes of Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, Simple Minds, New Order, Howard Jones, Psychedelic Furs…..among others – so it’s no surpise to see a few of those names turn up in their Essential Weekly Playlist.

LAOISE RELEASES INFECTIOUS NEW TRACK ‘BOTHER’ FROM UPCOMING SECOND EP

Originally from Galway, in Western Ireland, Laoise grew up surrounded by traditional Irish music. The 21 writes ambitious, frank, and dreamy pop songs which cover topics such as relationships and heartbreak, often with dark and moody, introspective undertones. Laoise (pronounced Lee-sha) pulls apart her own experiences and examines them with a gritty and impressive honesty and bravery. Laoise’s latst song, ‘Bother’ tells the very familiar story of a love gone wrong – a relationship that’s turned sour and spiteful.

Essential Advent Calendar: Circuit3 – ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’

Irish synth artist Circuit3 (aka Peter Fitzpatrick) has released his take on the classic, ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’. Originally released in 1975 by Greg Lake (Emerson Lake & Palmer) with lyrics by Peter Sinfield, the instrumental riff between the verses on ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’ comes from the ‘Troika’ portion of Sergei Prokofiev’s ‘Lieutenant Kijé’ Suite. Circuit3’s synthy version was recorded in Dublin using classic retro analogue synthesisers, giving the song a charmingly warm vibe.

It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over – LCD Soundsystem Keep The Party Going With ‘American Dream’

Although their “last show ever” in February 2011 could have been the end of the road for LCD Soundsystem, it’s pretty clear the music was never going to completely die for the Brooklyn band, who were named in 2013 as one of Rolling Stone’s “New Immortals”. And with the announcement of their reunion in 2016 and headlining of Coachella that year, it was only a matter of time that a new album from James Murphy and crew would also be released.

It’s Just Craig – ‘Dark Corners’

It’s Just Craig was originally a planned mid-life crisis: just before his 40th birthday, Craig Helmreich ran off to San Francisco with ten songs, and six friends – Elijah, Marc and Kirsten Ford; John Vanderslice; Jason Slota and; Rob Shelton. They put the ten songs on two inch tape at Tiny Telephone recording studios, where they convinced Bernie Grundman to master the record, and cut the lacquers. This became ‘Blood On The Table’. Now Craig and his friends are back, together with Jess and Kelsey from Von Strantz. They’ve recorded album 2, ‘Dark Corners’, once again at Tiny Telephone.
