Premiere: Darren Jessee – ‘Getting Back To It Now’

‘Getting Back To It Now’, set for release tomorrow, October 16, is the new single from Darren Jesse’s sophomore album, ‘Remover’. Best known as co-founder and drummer for Chapel Hill alt-pop act, Ben Folds Five, Jesse has had a 25 year history in the music business, and has released music since 2004 under the nom de plume of Hotel Lights. ‘Getting Back To It Now’ is the follow up to the single, ‘Cape Elizabeth’, which we wrote about at the end of July.

Nathaniel Bellows – ‘In The Wool’

Self-released on October 2, Nathaniel Bellows’ third album is aptly entitled, ‘Three’. The eight songs have also taken him three years to write, and started when his father’s health started to decline and then rapidly go into freefall. Bellows senior died in March last year, and although Nathaniel continued to keep writing after his father’s death, you quickly begin to see why the number means a lot to him.

As a young teenager and avid reader of Smash Hits Magazine, it was Shakin’ Stevens who made my heart pound first of all, and his poster held pride of place on the inside of my wardrobe door. Well Shaky is back, and his new single, ‘Wild At Heart’, has today received its world exclusive first play on BBC Radio 2.

Lorenzo Doryon Releases The Anthemic ‘Straight Into The Fire’

25-year old Italian-American model Lorenzo Doryon has swapped the photo studio for the recording studio as he gears up to release his debut EP. ‘Straight Into The Fire’ is a single taken from the EP and opens with Lorenzo singing “Take the dark days and send them to the sun” as the electronic clap beat kicks in and then blends with soaring electric guitar. The chorus is anthemic and is perfect for a live gig sing-along as the punch the air Clubland-esque beat pumps rhythmically.

Justina Valentine – ‘Lucky You’

We’ve been writing about Justina Valentine for years now, from the Eastern-vibed hip-hop of ‘Suga Daddy’, back in 2016, to July this year, with her singles, ‘Hide & Seek’, and ‘Just Spit It’. The flame-haired singer, who’s also found fame on TV, as a regular cast member of the hit MTV show ‘Wild ‘N Out’, as well as an MTV fan favourite with appearances on ‘TRL’, ‘How Far is Tattoo Far’, and ‘Revenge Prank’, plus hosting reunions for ‘The Challenge’, ‘Jersey Shore’, and ‘Ex on the Beach’. It’s music that’s her true love however, and her latest single, ‘Lucky You’, takes Justina, and her fans, further than ever before.

Papi Shiitake – ‘Enjoy The View’

Papi Shiitake is the brainchild of Young Tuxx, best known as the frontman of Brooklyn band, Best Behaviour. The project sees him collaborating and co-writing with his long time friend,  Ryan Sieloff. The pair unite the East and West coasts of the USA, and incorporate their distinct styles, with Sieloff’s 60s-inspired dreamscapes, and Young Tuxx’s tales of optimistic loneliness. Together they create an alt-surf frock world which comes unfiltered from their creative minds.
