“How Do You Know When You’re Right?” Steve Alex’s Solo Project Never Heavy Releases New Single, ‘Anything More’, Ahead Of Album ‘Never Heavy Is One Full of Light’

Florida indie rocker Steve Alex, best known as frontman, guitarist, and main songwriter for Four Star Riot, brings an irresistible retro sound to fans from his solo project, Never Heavy. Latest drop, ‘Anything More’, is the first single from his upcoming album, the intriguingly-titled, ‘Never Heavy Is One Full Of Light’.

Steve Alex released Never Heavy’s self-titled debut album in 2022, after nearly 30 years as a performing artist. The first single from upcoming album, ‘Never Heavy Is One Full Of Light’, due out on 30 August, ‘Anything More’, is a catchy retro-sounding track, that leans strongly on Alex’s raspy, Lennon-esque (or Marc Bolan even) vocals, along with an oscillating organ, and vintage style guitars, tied together with the lightest touch on the drums.

‘Anything More’ has a peace, love, and barefoot hippy vibe; folky finger-plucked notes drop in from time to time, while at others, they slide over the steel strings, thrillingly. There’s also trilled piano notes towards the end, further adding to the Bolan feel. The lyrics are reflective, as Alex considers the deeper meanings to life and love – presumably while going about his daily life (there’s references to ironing out wrinkles, making the bed and moving pillows, washing it all on cold, and straightening out the linen, waiting for someone to fold – very very domestic) – He’s happy with what he’s got, and who he’s with – he’s all in and he doesn’t need anything more.

‘Never Heavy Is One Full Of Light’ is out 30 August, through Vital Records. The 10 track album will give fans of Never Heavy (and indeed, fans of good quality music) a new favourite long player. Until then, we’ll have to be content with just this single, until we get ‘Anything More’.
