Swedish legends The Hives announce the dates for their 2024 UK and Ireland tour, including London’s Eventim Apollo on April 13, and Dublin’s world famous Olympia Theatre on April 8.
Their sixth studio album, ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’, is set for release on August 11 this year, and can be pre-ordered here.
With their stadium tour with Arctic Monkeys coming to an end later this week, a tour announcement seemed like exactly the right thing for The Hives to do. Commencing on March 27 at Leeds Academy, they will then take their frenetic show across the UK and Ireland, to 12 lucky cities – culminating on April 13 at London’s Eventim Apollo. As suggested by the somewhat macabre album title, the band’s extended hiatus from the studio has not been a pleasure cruise, but rather, something of a horror story. The Hives have openly admitted that they’ve seen not hide nor hair, nor have they spoken to their founder, mentor, and songwriter, the eternally secretive and perpetually limelight-avoiding Randy Fitzsimmons, since the release of their 2012 album, ‘Lex Hives’.
Now, following the discovery of a hidden-away obituary, along with a cryptic poem in the local paper of Fagersta, their hometown in Västmanland, Northern Sweden, the band members made their way to Fitzsimmons’ tombstone. Upon investigating the freshly dug ground, they found, not a body but rather, several tapes, suits, and a piece of paper bearing the words, ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’, typed like a title.
While some might suggest this is an elaborate hoax, others believe it is instead Fitzsimmons’ opening gambit. Either way, time will tell. In any case, the uncovered tapes included the demos that would become the twelve new songs on ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’.
