You’ll most likely have heard his name before – most famous for being one third of R&B group, Rak-Su, Myles is now branching out on is own with his debut solo single, ‘Old Fashioned’, which is out now, and available to stream and download here.
Myles takes inspiration from Afro-pop styles on the track, which he wrote, produced, and recorded in an incredible five hours, in his home studio. The lyrics are somewhat conservative, with Myles speaking about subverting expectations, and falling in love, “the old fashioned way”. He’s got experience too – Myles has been happily in a three year (so far) relationship, and puts it down to taking it slow, saying,
“We didn’t do modern day dating (like Netflix and Chilling) we got to know each other for who we are”.
In ‘Old Fashioned’ Myles outlines what his ideal date would be – slow and getting to know the girl before “getting cracking”. He also wants his date to know that he’s not going to run off; he’s not about using the girl, having sex first – he wants to save that for marriage and “do it old fashioned”. He asked for her parents’ blessing (the say yes – “so long as you stay dressed”), and says he’ll pick up the check, and get her home by 9. It’s a refreshing look at relationships, and maybe one that other people can learn from, if they’re not already dating that way. Even though it’s 2022, it doesn’t mean that the old ways need to be thrown away.
As part of Rak-Su, which was formed in Watford in 2015, Myles has had chart success with the band’s extensive catalogue, including ‘Dimelo’, which soared to the number 2 spot on the Official UK Singles Chart. The group has performed at KISS Haunted House Party, headlined Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball and supported artists such as Olly Murs and Little Mix. Through all this, Myles has built quite the following, and wants to show his fanbase a new side to him that’s never been seen before, beginning this journey with ‘Old Fashioned’.
