Rock sensations Måneskin continue to take the world by storm as they win the vote for Best Rock Act at the annual MTV Europe Music Awards tonight in Budapest, becoming the first Italian act in history to win a global category, and emerging victorious in the same category as Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, and The Killers. The latest accolade comes hot on the heels of their sold out European tour and an opening performance for The Rolling Stones concert in Las Vegas last week.
To top off the evening , Måneskin left the awestruck audience in a sweat tonight as they made their EMA stage debut with a triumphant performance of their recent chart hit “MAMMAMIA”, illuminated with a towering neon sign and flashing strobe lights. The international rockers, who became household names earlier this year, also scooped further nominations for Best Group and Best Italian Act, becoming the first Italian act to garner three nominations.
Accepting the award, Måneskin said:
“First of all we wanted to say thank you to all our fans and the people that have supported us. We love you. But, we also wanna say that people usually told us we are not gonna make it with our music, well, I guess you were wrong”.
Their success follows a rollercoaster of a debut in America as the band conquer chart success, perform as special guests at The Rolling Stones concert in Las Vegas, sit down with Ellen DeGeneres and Jimmy Fallon, and not to mention their nomination for Best Trending Song at the 2021 American Music Awards with “Beggin’” on November 22nd.
Nearing a year since their conquest in Rotterdam and chart success in America, Måneskin’s breakout victory in 2021 shows no sign of slowing down. In just two hours, all the European concerts of their upcoming 2022 tour sold out, further cementing their global dominance and status as Europe’s most exciting band. The glam rockers also made history in the UK as the first Italian act to have two Top 10s on the UK single chart simultaneously, capping off an incredible year for the band.
With their raw, energetic and distorted sound, Måneskin are taking rock’n’roll back to the forefront of the world’s charts, perfectly mixing it with contemporary tastes. Victoria (bassist), Damiano (vocalist), Thomas (guitarist) and Ethan (drummer) started out as buskers performing in the streets of Rome in 2015 and, just a few years later, conquered the world, becoming one of the most popular rock bands of the new generation.
Following the great success gained by the album “Il ballo della vita” (which was released on October 26, 2018), the band went on a long tour across Europe and performed at the best music clubs and festivals in Italy, and then, on October 30, 2020, released their new single “VENT’ANNI”. Måneskin won the 71st Sanremo Music Festival with their song “ZITTI E BUONI”, and then conquered the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, winning first place and enjoying remarkable success worldwide, earning in just a few weeks several gold and platinum records in more than 15 countries.
Their second album “Teatro d’ira – Vol. I” was released on March 19, 2021 and will be followed by sold-out tours in the major European cities and at sports arenas across Italy that will kick off in 2022, as well as an event concert at the Circo Massimo in Rome on July 2022. On July 15, 2021 the video for “I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE” premiered worldwide on YouTube, topping 6.7 million streams in just 24 hours, becoming a hit song in 67 countries and climbing to #20 on the global top artists chart. The song also boasts a stunning version in collaboration with rock legend Iggy Pop, released on August 6, 2021. Måneskin have broken a number of unprecedented records, peaking to #1 on the Spotify Global Top 50 Chart with “Beggin’” that, together with “I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE”, cracked the UK Singles Chart – both songs in Top 10 – thus becoming the first Italian band in the history of music to crack the UK Top Ten Chart with two singles at the same time.
On September 25, 2021 Måneskin performed as headliner with Ed Sheeran and Doja Cat at the “Global Citizen Live 2021” in Paris. On October 8, 2021 they released their new single “MAMMAMIA”, that debuts at #24 on Spotify’s Global Chart, the highest debut amongst all the new Friday releases and the band’s highest one so far.
