Danish duo WIINSTON grew up listening to the music of blink-182, Sum41, and so on – bands with numbers in their names…and some without. Although they mix up their sound a fair deal, those bands have inspired their music in no small way – not least of which for their new single, ‘TIME’.
Comprising lead singer Daniel Richards and producer Alfred Thomas, WIINSTON has always challenged themselves musically, with previous offerings such as ‘MIDNIGHT ROCKET’ in 2018, with its dark, urban flavour, and the acoustic and dreamy ‘JELLYFISH’ from last year, whose single ‘Trip’ we wrote about in October.
‘TIME’ is WIINSTON’s first release for 2020, and it’s unashamedly pop-punk, a positively upbeat and glorious track that comes in at just under 3 minutes – perfect in case the pair are looking at representing Denmark at Eurovision at some time in the future! The vocals meld seamlessly with the strident guitar accompaniment. ‘TIME’ is one of those songs that’ll make you nostalgic for a time that probably wasn’t all that amazing but in our memories feels like it was. You’ll certainly be hitting replay more than once, the summer breezy vibe of ‘TIME’ compels you to do so.
‘TIME’ was co-written and produced by the duo, alongside UK/DK pair RoseGold. Speaking about the track, WIINSTON said,
”We suddenly toplined on something that reminded us of those immortal guitar-riffs that keep even the most horrible 20-year old high school B-movie afloat. It has become a strange but amazing paradox between our roots in urban music and a smashed punk-pop track.”
‘TIME’ is out today, 17 April, and is available to stream and download here. You can find WIINSTON online on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
