Primarily comprising songwriter Victoria Coghlan and producer Luke Oldfield (son of Mike Oldfield), Gypsyfingers is an ethereal folk-rock/alternative band, started in 2010 as a solo project by Victoria while she was living in Paris.
Classically trained pianist and vocalist Victoria took up guitar for the first time during this period, and after moving to London in 2011 she met Luke in 2011, who listened toher demos and offered to produce a Gypsyfingers album at Tilehouse Studios, Denham, which had originally been built for his father, Mike. The studio specialises in vintage recording equipment, and Luke contributed guitar and percussion to the recordings. Shortly after the pair began writing and performing together in and around London as a duo. Their debut album, ‘Circus Life’, was released in 2014. Victoria and Luke sought additional band members, and enlisted Patrick Kenneally to play drums and keyboards, and Simon Hedges, and Tali Trow to join as well.
Gypsyfingers have played The Isle Of Wight Festival and Hyde Park BST, both to great acclaim, and will be taking their blend of ethereal folk-rock and pop on tour across the UK during October and November. Their second album is set for release on 26 October.
‘Hey Maria’ is a fast paced and folky track which highlight’s Victoria’s vocals while not detracting from the instrumentals. In speaking about the track, Coghlan said,
“I wrote ‘Hey Maria’ on a beach in France road-tripping with my friend Maria. We met in a taxi at 3am in Paris and became best friends even though we couldn’t speak each other’s language! It’s a song about friendship, growing up and living in the moment…”
