Alt-pop artist Lights, has just announced that her forthcoming album ‘Skin&Earth’ is to be released on 22nd September, via Warner Bros Records. The album is available now for pre-order, and includes the anthemic lead single, ‘Giants’, plus the sensual ‘Skydiving’, as well as empowering new release ‘Savage’ (which features Twenty One Pilots’ Josh Dun on drums) as an instant gratification track.
The ‘Skin&Earth’ project is both an album and comic book series, entirely written and illustrated in full by Lights, with each monthly comic book chapter corresponding directly to songs on the album. The digital intro issue was released in May, and the first print issue of ‘Skin&Earth’ went on sale in July via Dynamite Entertainment. The instant grat offering ‘Savage’ corresponds directly with Issue 2 of the album’s companion comic book series, on sale now.
The accompanying videos for ‘Giants’ and ‘Skydiving’ also offer unique visual windows into the ‘Skin&Earth’ comic book series- the ‘Giants’ video sees Lights’ fictional character En, brought to life, and can be viewed HERE. The ‘Skydiving’ video, which gives a cinematic look at how Lights wrote and illustrated the series, can be seen HERE.
In creating the immersive world of ‘Skin&Earth’, Lights actively worked on both the album and comic series concurrently – letting the music inspire the comic and vice versa. She explains,
“I feel my whole life has lead up to a project like this. It’s a complete convergence of everything I love – music, comics, post-apocalyptic romance, crystals, wine and powerful ladies, all perfectly entwined. It’ll be by far my most care-free and fierce album yet. I think now, more than ever, people need a reason to listen to a whole record, and this is mine.”
‘Skin&Earth’ follows up Lights’ 2015 release, ‘Little Machines’ which won the singer-songwriter her second JUNO Award, for Best Pop Album of the Year.
