In a moving tribute to his late mother, Johannah Deakin, who died last week, Louis Tomlinson returned to X Factor on Saturday night in a debut performance of his song, ‘Just Hold On’, which he has released with electro house musician and producer, Steve Aoki.
The song, written by Tomlinson and Aoki, along with Eric Rosse, Sasha Sloan, and Sir Nolan, was also produced by Steve, who accompanied Louis on stage.
Johannah Deakin lost her battle with leukaemia on Wednesday, but had wished for Louis to go ahead with the performance. When news broke of her death, the lyrics to ‘Just Hold On’ took on a whole more poignant significance, with lines including,
“It’s not over ’til it’s all been said
It’s not over ’til your dying breath
So what do you want them to say when you’re gone?
That you gave up or that you kept going on?”and
“The sun goes down and it comes back up
The world it turns no matter what
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh oh, if it all goes wrong
Darling, just hold on”
‘Just Hold On’ is currently in the number 1 spot on the charts in 36 countries, and is available to download and stream here.
