Dos Floris, real name Florence Donovan, relocated to Italy from the UK, and decided to try her luck at being a solo artist, after bouncing between genres, formations, and bands. Her album, ‘The Widowed Earth’ has spawned the beautiful ‘Water’, a gorgeous convergence of the human spirit and nature.
Music has long been a part of Florence’s life, but a struggle with and subsequent recovery from Anorexia Nervosa gave her the will to fully immerse herself in her career, the journey through which ‘The Widowed Earth’ effectively documents.
She spent three years honing her skills in what she calls “Harry Potter style”: under the staircase at home, writing, producing, and recording what would result in her album. Huffington Post describes it thus:
“The result is a hypnotic genre defying cinematic soundscape of an album, her “pieces are much sound sculptures as they are songs.”
The video accompanying ‘Water’ sees Dos Floris among the moss-covered stones, and gently flowing river, deep in a forest. The clip has been shot and directed by Mediamorphose, and each scene carefully constructed to allow Dos Floris to take centre stage in the frame. Ethereal, enigmatic and mysterious, her costumes range from deliciously feathered garments, to the most basic of clothes – each symbolic of a stage in her personal journey.
