Millie Claxton set off on a busking tour of America, playing wherever she stayed, and earned enough money to move from town to town. Surfing, snowboarding, skating – sports to the extreme. She collects feathers, precious stones and dream catchers while travelling – she stops at festivals and sells fine jewellery she’s made from these things, and plays her music. Not only does her jewellery become popular, but so does her music.
Although only 5’1″ tall, Millie packs a punch with her acoustic guitar, harmony looping pedals, electronic kick drum and enchanting voice. She’s been performing since she was 13 – now 20 and back in her home town of Southampton, her debut single, ‘Spanner in the Works’ peaked at No. 13 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. Her influences include George Ezra, Ben Howard, Ed Sheeran, as well as Bon Iver and Kate Nash.
A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, Millie is a regular performer for ‘Taking The Piste’ in the French Alps. She also loves vintage clothes, and her feather jewellery is a regular fixture at festivals in the US and UK. She’s supported Loveable Rogues, Misty Miller & Tom Baxter on tour – and co-written with the likes of Massive Attack’s Dan Brown, Dan Smith (The Noisettes), and Nina Schofield.
Just Millie is about to release a double A side single, ‘Lanterns/Not OK’ on Groovefinder Records. Due out on July 24, it’s an homage to believing in the power to succeed, of being determined, of beating the odds – of going against the grain and proving the naysayers wrong. Whoever she is, she’s Just Millie.
