With a sound that expertly blends a mixture of classic and contemporary influences, Liverpool five-piece Cavalry has what it takes to go the long run.
Formed in June 2013 the band has caught the attention of established and influential musicians, supporting such acts as British Sea Power, The Antlers, and Steve Malkmus.
The band comprises Alan Croft on lead vocals, Austin Logan on guitar, Paul Jones on bass, Steven Taylor on guitar and Gareth Dawson on drums. Featured by BBC Merseyside’s Dave Monks, and BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens as a discovery on”BBC Introducing”, their early tracks were eagerly played by legendary DJ Tom Robinson on BBC 6, as well as BBC 2′ s Janice Long.
With just two online tracks and a few live shows under their belts, it’s hard to believe that Cavalry have made such an impact already, but their music leaves the listener wanting for more.
Cavalry release their first official single, ‘An Understanding’, on May 31. With the steady drum beat keeping the guitar sound together, the song has more than a hint of Kodaline about it, which we find quite pleasing. Atmospheric and emotive, ‘An Understanding’ could easily lend itself to the soundtrack of a drama series, and will definitely be a welcome addition to any radio playlist.
Cavalry are currently long-listed for a slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Let’s hope those odds are shortened!
