The beautiful Anna Calvi has been announced as the support act for Morrissey’s European tour, due to commence late November. She’s just been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for her second album, ‘One Breath’.
Calvi’s eponymous first album also picked up a nomination back in 2011.
Speaking to NME, Anna admitted she was a bit scared of supporting Morrissey:
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of supporting Morrissey. I’m a huge fan of The Smiths and it’s going to be an experience. I’m a bit scared of playing the O2 and it’s slightly daunting, as I’ve never played arenas before.”
“The offer to support Morrissey came directly from him and his people, so I’m very honoured. I’ll put everything into it. I’ve done some difficult gigs before, so I’ve earned my stripes to play arenas now.”
She went on to describe her feelings at being nominated for the prestigious award:
“It feels really amazing to be nominated for both my albums. The first time was a surprise, and you don’t get expect to get two nominations. I feel incredibly lucky.”
Morrissey’s European tour now commences 23 November at the Columbiahalle, Berlin, before moving onto the Colosseum in Essen on the 24th. Two dates are scheduled at Stadsschouwburg Theatre, Antwerp on 26-27 November, before rounding off the month at the 02 in London on 29 November. 1 December sees him perform at Dublin’s 3 Arena (formerly known as the O2).
