Free Willy – ‘Remember the Alamo’

‘Remember The Alamo’, the new album from Free Willy, is a collection of twelve tracks in Americana, alt country, and bluegrass styles. The quartet hails from Crockett, Texas, and comprises WB Jones on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Jim Taylor on bass and backing vocals; Spence Peppard on lead guitar, drums, and backing vocals, as well as lead vocals on ‘American Medley’; Kevin Carter on fiddle and mandolin, and Steve DeVries on banjo and harmonica.

Liyah Bey – ‘Million Dollar Girl’ and ‘Can’t Stop Loving You’

Los Angeles based Liyah Bey has a powerful voice that is classic, flexible, and endlessly adaptable. Having trained and performed professionally since she was a child, her breadth of talents and confidence have given her extraordinary opportunities, including singing Lauryn Hill’s parts at a Fugees concert in Moscow. Additionallym, Liyah has developed a successful show, ‘Lady Soul’, which is a gorgeous vocal tribute to the great Aretha Franklin.

Justina Valentine – ‘The Real Justina’

Justina Valentine will be a familiar name with regular readers of EP, as we’ve written about her no fewer than four times over the past year and a half. Last year, 2017, was a banner year for Justina. Apart from her stunning videos ‘Deep End’, Crushing On You’, and ‘Sunlight’, she cemented herself in the celebrity firmament by becoming a fan favourite on Nick Cannon’s ‘Wild ‘N Out’, where she’s developed a reputation for her freestyle talent as well as her huge personality – who could forget her freestyling while riding a mechanical bull? Justina has also been enlisted to be a part of the new season of MTVs ‘The Challenge: Chamsp vs Stars’, where she’s more than held her own, in some of the most gruelling of competitions.

The APX – ‘Right On Time’

Atlanta’s Dee and Erika Rhodes recently joined forces after making music separately for years, and launched The APX after a successful private event known as “The After Party Experience”. The husband and wife duo describe their sound as “a galactic funky atmosphere, using synths, sax, and vocals”, and released their debut single ‘Capture The Moment’, in January 2016, to test the waters. The response was pleasing, and so they released their debut EP, ‘Electrik Funk’ in July 2017 on Sleepers Records and Neon Fingers Records. Their latest single, ‘Right On Time’, is an everday feel-good love song, is an Ashford and Simpson style track with powerful vocals and a strong backbeat. Special mention must also go to the use of keytars by both Dee and Erika!

Jane N’ The Jungle – ‘One Time’

Jane N’ The Jungle are certainly making a name for themselves with their unique blend of 90s style alt and modern rock. The Phoenix Arizona trio, who formed back in 2013, have already graced the pages of Essentially Pop several times in 2017 alone, most notably with their singles, ‘Killed Someone’, and ‘Faded Stars’. Now they’ve released their final instalment for the year, ‘One Time’; a pared down ballad which gives the listener a deeply personal look at the band.
