‘Cats Of Malta’ Film Revealed On International Cat Day

Yesterday marked the 22nd celebration of one of the most important days in the world – International Cat Day, on August 8th. To celebrate the day, Nexus Production Group, a Maltese production outfit, have revealed premier dates for a brilliant new independently produced film titled ‘Cats of Malta’ – an aptly named film/documentary detailing the vibrant Mediterranean island country’s vast populations and colonies of all different kinds of felines, and the culture surrounding them.

International Cat Day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IWAF) to raise awareness for cats and ways to best accommodate them. NPG (Nexus Production Group), formed in 2007, had plans to do something special for the day since before the pandemic, doing a large amount of filming before COVID-19 set in, and even continuing production throughout. Directed by experienced filmmaker and director, Sarah Jayne Portelli, and produced by Ivan Malekin, the film stars a wide range of actors, all of whom play themselves in the film.

Described as both family and feline friendly, the prototype of the film has already been shown to a wide range of critics, winning a number of awards in the process. It’s not just a film about cats – rather about the influence they have on the culture of the archipelago of Malta, and the way they affect day-to-day living. Composed of multiple elements such as cast interviews, documentary footage and narration, ‘Cats of Malta’ isn’t just a story about the fields of felines populating Malta, but also a heartwarming piece that highlights several important themes in our daily lives, such as showing compassion and unconditional love.

The film releases on Apple TV and Amazon on the following dates, in the following countries;
Malta/Spanish-speaking Latin America: September 21st
UK/Ireland: September 25th
French-speaking Western Europe: October 11th
A week before the dates start, there will be a presale held for the film, with it being available in Spanish, English and French. Find out more about the film here.
