OPPENHEIMER has been one of the most anticipated films of 2023. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Cilian Murphy as the titular character, J. Robert Oppenheimer, along with supporting actors such as Matt Damon, Josh Hartnett and Robert Downey Jr., the upcoming release is a dramatised biography of Oppenheimer’s life and the events that lead up to the completion of the infamous Manhattan project, releasing in theatres on July 21st, 2023.
The upcoming picture will be Nolan’s 12th feature film, following world famous classics such as ‘Interstellar’, ‘Inception’, and the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. This also marks the 25th year of Nolan’s directing career – he first started out with the indie film ‘Following’ at the turn of the 20th century in 1998. The British-American filmmaker first announced the film in September 2021, with filming starting in February the next year. ‘Oppenheimer’ is based on the biography, ‘American Prometheus’, released in 2005 by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Now, Universal are giving audiences more insight into what the film will be like, with this new featurette, titled ‘Pushing the Button’.
The 6-minute long featurette features a different range of production material; film clips, interviews with production staff and actors, behind-the-scenes clips, etc. These combine to give an excellent impression of what’s yet to come; our first bit of information on the film since its teaser trailer was released in May has been an interesting look into not only the film itself, but the production that went into it. ‘Oppenheimer’ releases on the 21st of July – note that this is the same day as the ‘Barbie’ romcom, so audiences can pick their poison when they come out in theatres.
