If you’ve not already discovered the hit Disney+ show, ‘Only Murders In The Building’, then go watch season 1 now before you read the rest of this article, because the second season is set to start streaming on June 28, and it’s not a show you can just pick up anywhere.
‘Only Murders In The Building’ follows the lives of three residents of an historic apartment complex in New York City, who find out that they all enjoy listening to a top rating true murder podcast, and, due to a certain set of circumstances, decide to start their own.
Each episode is a finely crafted continuation of a storyline that plays out more like real life – albeit a hyper-real version – than a regular comedy series. This is as much down to the stellar cast as the writing; while the three main characters, Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam, and Mabel Mara (the first two are played by legendary comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short, while Mabel is played by Selena Gomez, at her sardonic best) are undoubtedly the main focus of the show, the rest of the cast provide just as much spice, drama, and laughs.
Returning for season 2 include Jackie Hoffman, as the acid tongued Uma, Michael Cyril Creighton as nosy neighbour Howard, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, as Inspector Williams, and Tina Fey as rival true murders podcaster, Cinda Channing. And while season one was noted for its high profile cameos, such as talk show host Jimmy Fallon, Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez, and most notably Sting, playing a heightened version of himself who also lived in the building, it’s the huge names joining the cast as recurring characters that we’re living for, in particular the queen herself, Shirley MacLaine, who makes her grand entrance very early in the piece.
Additionally, Amy Schumer, filling not just the spot but also the penthouse vacated by Sting, joins the cast as herself, while Cara Delevingne, plays art gallery owner Alice, a fan of not just the podcast, but also of Mabel.
Cara spoke last night in London to a select gathering of press and celebrities at the Soho Hotel and revealed what it was like working on the show. Watch a short extract from that interview below.
Watch the first two episodes of season 2 of ‘Only Murders In The Building’ on Disney Plus UK from June 28, and then 1 episode every week thereafter.
