What do you get one you mix the world’s biggest country star (that’d be Dolly, if you’re schtumped) and one of the world’s most influential country duos? And that would be for KING & COUNTRY, incidentally.
The answer is a heart-shattering new version of ‘God Only Knows’, for KING & COUNTRY’s globally adored single taken from their also-globally-adored album, Burn The Ships. One of several new versions of the song – Timbaland and Echosmith have also thrown in their talents – this unprecedented collaboration between the Queen of Country and the Aussie-born, Nashville-based brothers is getting all the right tongues wagging. Including Dolly’s, seeing as you ask.
“When I first heard ‘God Only Knows’ I thought it was one of the best songs I’d ever heard,” says Dolly. I came from a very spiritual background, and I love anything to do with inspirational songs that lift people up. I feel that this is a good song for right now, and it’s so well written. I know that it touched me at a time when I needed to be lifted up.”
Throw in a Nashville-filmed video, directed by Benjamin Smallbone and produced by Patrick Tohill, and a deluxe edition of Burn The Ships – two years in the making, what with the myriad cross-genre collaborations they pulled in – and god only knows (sorry!) for KING & COUNTRY really are having a moment, or several.
