Today Canadian singer-songwriter Kiesza kicks off 2020 with the release of her new single ‘When Boys Cry’ through her own label, Zebra Spirit Tribe.
Retaking her rightful place on the electro-pop scene at the end of 2019 with the release of her first official UK single in years, the critically acclaimed ‘You’re The Best’, Kiesza is firmly back in business. 2020 is set to be the year that the “larger-than-life” (PAPER) singer-songwriter fully emerges as an artist reborn, with new songs and a fresh perspective on the future.
Produced by Chris Malinchak, ‘When Boys Cry’, is the new single taken from Kiezsa’s forthcoming album set for release later this year. In a definite nod to the 1980’s, the tender track is released alongside a stunning video (directed by Nytrix DOP: Chris Copro), which sees Kiezsa bring her charisma and dance moves to the streets of Melrose, Los Angeles.
Bravely penning the track about the vulnerability of men in her life, Kiezsa says,
“Throughout history, men have had less permission to be vulnerable with their feelings than woman, despite the fact that male and female energy both lives and seeks balance in all of us. As a champion of female empowerment myself, I equally champion the empowerment of men to tap into their feminine power and allow themselves to be vulnerable emotionally. ‘When Boys Cry’ shines a light on this subject. I wrote the melody and lyrics of the song with the intension of supporting men, so they feel confident sharing this side of themselves with the world, and encourage people as a whole to celebrate it when they do.”
Kiesza became an instant star in 2014 when her impassioned vocal tune ‘Hideaway’ (which has notched up over 1 billion + streams to date), and her 1 million + selling debut album, Sound Of A Woman saw her top charts globally. Marquee talents rushed to work with her, and soon we saw the rising Canadian talent’s feature on releases from the likes of Skrillez, Diplo, Duran Duran and Joey Bada$$ (to name but a few). While brands such as Fendi and Maison Birks utilised her iconic image in their promotional campaigns.
A life-changing car crash and head trauma brought Kiesza hurtling back to earth in 2017 and she has spent the last two years on hiatus recovering. Now, 2020– marks the rebirth. Prepare for Kiesza’s triumphant return on her own terms, poised and ready to re-take the global stage with her own unique brand of pop music.
