‘I Have A Dream’ – Owen Paul Guest Writes For Essentially Pop

Best known for his 1986 number 3 hit, ‘My Favourite Waste Of Time’, which he co-wrote, Scottish singer Owen Paul released ‘The One’, in January 2014, his first official single in the UK since 1987, and followed it with his album, ‘About Time II’ in the autumn that year. He continues to perform extensively, both as a solo artist and with his full band Live 80s show, and as lead vocalist for XSM (Ex Simple Mind). He played all three Rewind Festivals last year as part of the British Electric Foundation.
Owen’s latest single, ‘Amazing’, released in November 2017 is a remix by Stonebridge, and spent three weeks in the Music Week Club Charts.
Owen is our guest writer today.

The APX – ‘Right On Time’

Atlanta’s Dee and Erika Rhodes recently joined forces after making music separately for years, and launched The APX after a successful private event known as “The After Party Experience”. The husband and wife duo describe their sound as “a galactic funky atmosphere, using synths, sax, and vocals”, and released their debut single ‘Capture The Moment’, in January 2016, to test the waters. The response was pleasing, and so they released their debut EP, ‘Electrik Funk’ in July 2017 on Sleepers Records and Neon Fingers Records. Their latest single, ‘Right On Time’, is an everday feel-good love song, is an Ashford and Simpson style track with powerful vocals and a strong backbeat. Special mention must also go to the use of keytars by both Dee and Erika!

Jane N’ The Jungle – ‘One Time’

Jane N’ The Jungle are certainly making a name for themselves with their unique blend of 90s style alt and modern rock. The Phoenix Arizona trio, who formed back in 2013, have already graced the pages of Essentially Pop several times in 2017 alone, most notably with their singles, ‘Killed Someone’, and ‘Faded Stars’. Now they’ve released their final instalment for the year, ‘One Time’; a pared down ballad which gives the listener a deeply personal look at the band.
