Samuel Jack’s debut EP, ‘Let It All Out’ highlights the fact that the singer grew up on a diet of Blues, Motown, Roots, and Soul. Lead single, ‘Let It All Out’ is a Gospel style song which also denotes the influence of South Africa on the singer’s musical style – he spent much of his childhood between Johannesburg, The Netherlands, and Clapham, London.
Speaking of his debut track, Samuel explains,
“I think we’re all looking for a little redemption sometimes, it’s quite simple really. I wanted it to be honest. It is about release. After owning up to mistakes as life does have its ups and downs. You just have to get it off your chest and live life to the full. And above all, I wanted it to just be a good old sing-song.”
Now based on the outskirts of a small village in Somerset, in a caravan where he has been creating a lo-fi series of ‘Live From My Caravan’, Samuel Jack’s writing and composition reflects his unique insight into the wider world. Second song, ‘Making It Rain’ is rich and vibrant, and could easily be the first single from the album of a more established artist – it’s only a small sample of the gorgeous assortment on this EP.
Track three, ‘All The Things’, is sober and even sad; the gentle piano, strings, and light percussion providing the perfect accompaniment to Jack’s soulful vocals. Given the quality of the songs on this EP, it’s surprising it’s his debut. Completing the album with acoustic number ‘Remember Me’ Samuel’s voice is part Southern Gospel and part Soul, combining with something that’s uniquely his own. Recently championed by BBC Introducing and KCRW Los Angeles, as well as secret show movement, Sofar Sounds, Samuel has a number of upcoming live dates, including a co-headline show tonight at Surya, London, with vocal powerhouse Beth Rowley.
In addition to writing and recording his debut release, Samuel has also shared the stage with both upcoming, and established artists, including Grandmaster Flash, Izzy Bizu, and Jake Isaac.
‘Let It All Out’ is set for release on August 26. See here for tickets and further details of his co-headline show with Beth Rowley, tonight at Surya.
