Norwegian alt rockers viseMènn bring their dreamy atmospheric rock music to us with their single, ‘Begging You Please’.
The band features Lars Olav Mangelrød (Guitars), Helge Corneliussen (Bass/Vocals), Sølve Eggebø (Keyboards) and Magnar Lofthus (Drums), and have been together since the mid 2000s.
The members of the band come from widely different backgrounds, and first met through the improvisational rock project, ‘A Crack In Time And The Break Of Dawn’, which was founded by Helge Corneliussen, who is now the band’s bassist.
‘Begging You Please’, the band’s first official single, is accompanied by a music video, which features the band playing their instruments in a forest. The band members are in a dream like state, and their presence is supplementary to the background story: a man with a car is seen trying to revive another man, beside a bicycle. At first we think he’s hit the man on the bike, but then we notice that they’re wearing the same clothes. The same motif is repeated, a woman jogs through the forest, and comes across another woman, collapsed on the ground – again with the same clothes as the jogger. The people are trying to save “themselves” – they are fighting a losing battle.
It’s a deeply disturbing video, yet causes us to examine ourselves – can we save ourselves, no matter how hard we try? The man and woman realise it’s hopeless. The lyrics say as much, particularly the desperate cry, “I’m begging you please”, which is echoed throughout the entire song:
The moment I saw your face
I was lost and there’s no escapeThe moment I saw your face
I was lost and there’s no escapeI’m begging you please
I’m begging you pleaseBeen away for sometime now
Been away I don’t know how
But the moment I saw your face
I was lost and there’s no escapeI’m begging you please
I’m begging you pleaseThrough the night and through the day
I’ve been following your trace
Never let you out of sight
I am lost and there’s no escape
viseMènn have many times been featured at Indieweek Toronto, and Pop Overthrow Liverpool. Their sound is something akin to Sigur Rós, or Radiohead. You can find them online on Twitter, Facebook, Soundcloud and their website. ‘Begging You Please’ is available on iTunes.
