Blessed with Banksy, Massive Attack and the whole Trip Hop phenomenon, it could be said that Bristol’s been punching way above its cultural weight in recent years.
Now out of the Wild West come five new gunslingers aiming to prove they’ve got it what it takes to get to the very top.
Looking like a cross between early Mick Jagger and Ian Astbury of The Cult, The Shimmer Band bristle with confidence and psychedelic swagger.
Inhabiting much the same territory as Kasabian, the band boast a sound rooted in the past but full of modern flourishes.
Debut song Shoot Me (Baby) melds Stooges-style  attitude with Sly Stone grooves and romps along with a big old fashioned hook of a chorus.
Shades of Loop and Screamadelica-era Primal Scream abound as bursts of electronica punctuate throbbing bass and spiky guitar.
With support slots with The Strypes and The Jesus and Mary Chain under their belt, this is clearly a band that’s going places.
A headline tour of the UK is currently in the works in support of their new single.
The Shimmer Band are:  Tom Newman (vocals), guitarist Babsy, Willz Hatcher (drums), Tom Kuras on bass and Tom Smith (guitar and keyboards).
Shoot Me (Baby) is available on iTunes on this link.
