Felix Hagan & The Family have unveiled their enchanting video for their new song, ‘Some Kind Of Hero’. The song comes from their new EP, ‘Kiss The Misfits’.
Mostly animated, the video from the theatrical punks is a collaboration between Felix, filmmaker Lee Isserow, and animator Rob Millard. It’s a valiant story of triumph over larger-than-life tribulations, with the caption on Youtube saying,
“It is dedicated to anyone who has suffered from depression, and the people that will stop at nothing to pull them through.”
‘Some Kind Of Hero’ is a song of love and support, with Felix Hagan inspired to write it, by the torment of depression of a loved one. Following the release of the title track, ‘Kiss The Misfits’ (accompanied by a very entertaining video featuring Felix and many of his weird and wonderful fans), it’s gorgeously fun, with the track itself earworming its way into your head long after you’ve stopped listening.
Folk-punk legend Frank Turner is a fan, and having seen them live immediately asked them to support him, saying,
“Within about 30 seconds of them taking the stage, I was sold, a total convert, a newly-signed-up member of the cult.”
Animator Rob Millard was one of the many fans who sent in their own pictures for last year’s single, ‘Go Back Home’, and then after a chance meeting at one of Frank Turner’s gig in Manchester, the two devised a plan to use Rob’s formidable animation skills on a new song. Rob, now part of the world-famous Ardman Team (Wallace & Gromit), but started out at Factory, home of The Clangers. The video for ‘Some Kind Of Hero’ took six weeks to animate, requiring eight different sets.
Felix Hagan & The Family are on a mission to imbue British pop music with the exuberance of grandiose flamboyance found primarily in rock’n’roll. ‘Kiss The Misfits’ continues with this mission, the songs dealing with dark subjects: depression, addiction, the loss of young dreams and the drudgery of everyday life – and couples them with joyous spectacle and upbeat melodies.
Felix Hagan & The Family sprang to life two years ago. They moved to London from Liverpool, and have since taken their brand of theatre-pop around the country, bringing their insane live shows, incredible musical prowess, and total dedication in hundreds of gigs. What’s not to love!
