If you’re unfamiliar with X Ambassadors, we recommend you make your acquaintance pronto with the trio from Ithaca, New York. Their new long player, ‘ORION’, is only the second studio album from the band on the KIDinaKORNER/Interscope label, but it’s already making an impact with the single releases, ‘Boom’, ‘Hey Child’, and ‘Hold You Down’, as well as the recent track, ‘Confidence’, featuring K.Flay.
The Lumineers return after the triumph of their UK and US number 1 album, ‘Cleopatra’, with their third studio album, ‘III’, set for release on Decca Records on September 13. The two-time Grammy nominated band have also today released their new single, ‘Gloria’, the first single from the album. It comes ahead of the song’s first UK performance tonight on BBC One’s ‘Graham Norton Show’ tonight.
From San Clemente, California, teen singer songwriter Jaicee Rentz writes rustic tunes influenced by the dance pop of Carly Rae Jepsen and the acoustic sound of The Lumineers. Her debut release, ‘Colors’, started out as midnight downloads and were later fleshed out in the studios of Roshambo Sound, Orange County.
Even though judging a book by its cover isn’t considered to be the done thing, I was very much intrigued by that of ‘Cleopatra’, which features silent era star, and first film “vamp” Theda Bara, both in and out of costume, from the 1917 production of the film ‘Cleopatra’. It’s a stunning image, almost disturbing, as Bara stares defiantly from across time. Having enjoyed immensely their debut self titled album, I was certainly looking forward to their follow up, ‘Cleopatra’, and so I dived straight in.
