Last Thursday, July 20th, 2023, CHVRCHES’ Scottish vocalist Lauren Mayberry announced her first ever solo venture, sharing that new music is incoming – though collaborators are yet to be revealed – and unveiling a run of US and European headline shows.
Formed in Glasgow in 2011, CHVRCHES broke out with their debut single, “The Mother We Share.” Across their four U.K. top 10 albums, the band has amassed over 1.7 billion global streams to date, and their most recent album, 2021’s ‘Screen Violence,’ has earned widespread acclaim from NPR, Entertainment Weekly, Associated Press, Variety, Stereogum, AV Club, Consequence, and Uproxx.
Although 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of CHVRCHES’ debut, ‘The Bones Of What You Believe,’ Mayberry is decidedly looking to the future.
“For a long time, I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything outside of CHVRCHES,” she says. “But as I sail / stumble through this era of my life, it has started to feel like there are things I want to write and say and do that need to be done on my own. This solo project, I hope, will be my fun, freaky, sad, weird, joyful pop playground and I am so looking forward to sharing it with you.”
The shows’ schedule is as follows:
OCTOBER 2023
Thu 5th – Glasgow Oran Mor
Fri 6th – Birmingham O2 Institute 3
Sun 8th – Manchester Gorilla
Mon 9th – London Scala
