Boston-based Major Spark<\/a> have released ‘I Love This Country’, the new single from their third studio album, ‘Kill The Truth’, released last Friday, the 2nd of October, via High Wave with distribution from Downtown. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Comprising songwriter and vocalist Mark Goodman of Magnet, and producer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Charles of Rare Signals, the indie rock band grew out of Goodman and Charles’ long musical partnership. The pair bring with them massive musical talent, which over the years has seen Goodman collaborate with Moe Tucker of The Velvet Underground and David Lowery of Camper Van Beethoven, while Charles\u2019 production and engineering credits include DISPATCH, Marina and the Diamonds, and Weakened Friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major Spark’s debut single, ‘I\u2019m Not Gonna Stand Around’ released in 2021, and the album ‘Beautiful Noise’, was followed by ‘Walk Among the Poppies’ in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘I Love This Country’ sees the pair match the sweetness of Americana with pointed political commentary, centring on the fact that criticising your country doesn\u2019t necessarily mean you’ve abandoned all attachment to it, but rather, it’s an argument for reclaiming patriotism around the people, ideas, and freedoms the band believes are worth defending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur new album ‘Kill The Truth’ is highly critical of the current US administration, but we need to remind people of positive elements of our country. There IS something worth fighting for. There are many amazing people, places and events scattered across the United States, and we want to celebrate the beautiful things that make us unique \u2013 and reclaim the flag for the artists, thinkers, athletes, and those on the fringes of society\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The same idea carries over into the music video for ‘I Love This Country’, produced by HIP Video Productions. We see tattered US flags alongside Pride flags, with scenery from all over the USA, as well as skateboarders, bikers and so on. The clip shows more than just one fixed picture of the country, and gathers unto itself all manner of people, places, and symbols, as a reflection of its diversity, and positions democracy at the centre of the song. It’s a heart-warming reminder that when we are united we are stronger than if we are divided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
