We all love a lemonade – the kind of instantly sweet refreshment that can pull you out of the hottest summer days. So, what if that came in song form, serving up a soother for the everyday worries that cross our minds? That’s exactly what Girlhood have delivered with this bottle of retro-pop joy, ‘Lemon Aid’.

Soft and playful on the surface, yet rooted in a newfound reflection on adult life and the search for inner peace that emerges from the chaos of your twenties, the track is a timeless ode to uncovering beauty and joy in the mundane. Forget the glamour and gloss of the city that has shaped the band’s past – this is an introduction that takes us to the peaceful town of Stroud, where co-writers Christian Pinchbeck and Natalie Holmes penned the upcoming album, ‘This Will All Make Sense In The End’.

Fizzing with twinkling flourishes, ethereal harmonies, sugary synths, a rolling rhythm, and Holmes’ laid-back, gentle vocal delivery, ‘Lemon Aid’ melts around the eardrums while providing pops of energy when they’re needed. While its sweet lyrics craft a romanticised image of leaving difficulties behind, its infectious melody and subtly euphoric soundscape make this a hit-worthy track in the most enduring way.

When everyday life feels like a battle, ‘Lemon Aid’ is a shoulder to lean on, a song to uplift the spirits, or simply something to watch you daily challenges drift by to – because sometimes all we can do is let the world go on and work itself out. It’s pure and heartwarming, without ever feeling overly positive or saccharine.

Serving as a glimpse into their forthcoming album, ‘This Will All Make Sense In The End’, which reflects on relationships, navigating a new phase of life, and the use of food throughout as sweet and hopeful metaphors, Girlhood prove through this new partnership that reinvention can taste as good as it looks.

After several vocalists and line-ups, the duo’s co-writing stems from a collective inner peace – an inevitable joining of two people that reforms a band who continue to shape and develop their sound in a way that parallels their personal lives.

The result is something many can resonate with, lean back into, and listen to beneath the summer’s final long, blue-sky days.
