Brought together due to a need for a creative outlet during the COVID 19 pandemic, Mike Kanon on keyboards, Reilly Wareham on bass, and drummer Jason Young round out the trio of West LA neighbourhood buddies, Captains Of Entropy<\/a>. Conbining their talents – including Young\u2019s involvement with indie rock band, The Ruse, and ongoing solo project Heartour, Kanon\u2019s experience as a DJ – they had a solid foundation for a wide-ranging discography, and their improv jams soon led to wonderful original material.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Now, this group of friends are finding new ground as collaborators and creatives, and they have recorded at the historic Sunset Sound, on West Sunset, in the heart of Hollywood. Inspired by the legendary sounds of 70s jazz fusion, and 90s spaced out psychedelia, they give it their own spin, and with their next EP they continue to blur sonic boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Ball Under Couch’ was cut from the final track list of their upcoming EP, ‘The Flea & The Worm’, but it was too good to just leave untouched. The jazzy track with its psychedelic elements is accompanied an equally far out animated music video, that follows a day in the life of Wareham’s dearly departed chihuahua, Rubin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening with a fuzzy hum, we are swept into a vibrant house, where Rubin sits soaking up the sun, eyes closed. He yawns, the green haze illustrating that his breath leaves a lot to be desired. Suddenly, a tennis ball flashes brightly past, which Rubin, like all doggos, finds irresistible. Set to a groovy bass guitar and glistening keyboard riff, we follow Rubin and his stinky breath on his quest to fetch the ball. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video collage artist Laura Matikainen took more than three months to build and arrange the scenes by hand, bringing the story to life in a mind-blowing digital scrapbook. We follow Rubin on walks through his neighbourhood, watch him chewing on bones, and just generally hanging out with the band as they practice in the garage. It’s bright and colourful, and just joyous – a beautiful homage to a lovely doggo whose spirit lives on beyond the 16 years he lived on earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
