Duane Hoover has never denied how much he’s been inspired by those who went before him. His influences are many, and include the likes of David Bowie, The Who, The Kinks, and of course, The Beatles. With ‘After The Storm In Your Mind’. released today, he seems to tap into the very essence of John Lennon himself.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Nostalgic is too trite a word to describe Duane Hoover’s musical style; it’s evocative of a distant past that can be glimpsed only through a gossamer thin silk scarf, while wearing rose coloured glasses (with, if at all possible, circular lenses). With Duane Hoover one is transported, not just back in time, but also into the style, atmosphere, and culture – we don’t merely feel as though we’re back there, we’re immersed fully, as if we’ve never been in any other time or place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘After The Storm In Your Mind’ is set against a late 1950s style rock instrumental, while Hoover sings of someone who’s contemplating making some life changing decisions, and he implores them to think it over, before doing anything rash, and that they might regret. Because, after all, things might be different after the storm in your mind passes. The track is accompanied by a music video, composed of vintage film footage, of people going about their lives and being faced with tough decisions. All the while, Hoover is hovering over them, superimposed, like some sort of guardian angel, imploring them to think it over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Hoover’s music might hark back to an earlier time, it’s still very much of today. With ‘After The Storm In Your Mind’, he’s got the languid drawl of Lennon down pat, complete with an attitude that seems to suggest he’d rather be anywhere else than here right now, which is fitting with the subject matter of the song itself. It will resonate deeply with listeners, with many of us staring poverty in the face, and all of us under constant threat of wars and rumours of wars. Life isn’t particularly easy at this point of the 21st century, so any alternative would be great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
