Remember we introduced you to David Morin<\/a>, a while back – Canadian singer\/songwriter who’s honed his skills busking on the streets of Vancouver?\u00a0 Let’s get to know him a little bit better:<\/p>\n

Give us the potted David Morin story!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Raised by my single mother who was a singer\/songwriter, I was influenced by her soulful voice.\u00a0 By the time I was in high school I began writing songs and developing my voice, and have been up until today.\u00a0 I’ve been living off my art for the past five years, and have been taking it much more seriously.\u00a0 I’m excited to release my first album, entitled, “Every Colour”.<\/p>\n

How do you feel busking has helped you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before I started performing in the streets, I had little opportunity to establish myself as a known artist.\u00a0 Busking is a wonderful marketing tool, and a great way to build lifelong fans.<\/p>\n

Tell us about the influences in your music.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have always been heavily into hip-hop and R&B, but I have specifically been influenced by D’Angelo, Dwele, Eric Roberson, Slum Village, J Dilla, Erykah Badu…to name a few.\u00a0 More recently, I have been listening to James Blake, Kaytranada, Little Dragon, and Hiatus Kaiyote.<\/p>\n

You grew up in the rough part of town – how did you come upon music as an escape?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I grew up in a part of town that has a reputation for having high crime rates.\u00a0 When I was in high school it was hard to hang out with kids that weren’t getting into trouble.\u00a0 I was lucky enough to use my music as a defence mechanism.\u00a0 All the kids knew where to find me:\u00a0 in the band room, making beats.\u00a0 I was able to keep a steady distance, while maintaining respect.\u00a0 I didn’t have too many problems, because of my talents.<\/p>\n

Talk us through “Life Goes On”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This song describes the struggle one faces when trying to achieve an artistic goal, a personal dream, or a passionate, driven, purposeful life.\u00a0 It is about trying to find your place in a world where everything is designed to guide us into conformity.\u00a0 For me, music has become a mentor and a teacher, a cultivator of wisdom and has helped me to learn that our potential is only as small as the boxes we create for ourselves…I feel like this song vividly and sonically communicates this struggle and reminds us of how liberating such a lifestyle choice can be.<\/p>\n
