Liverpool’s Neil Potter has been so fascinated by the process and power of music all his life, and ever since the start of his musical journey, as a teenager, he’s dreamed of creating an album from scratch. After studying music at college and university, he threw himself all into a seemingly endless cycle of learning and teaching, with the aim of being the very best he could be. We’ve previously spoken about his release, ‘Over The Hills<\/a>‘ – now we present his latest track, ‘Shipwrecked’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Neil Potter’s debut album is set for release in mere weeks, and has seen so much time, effort, and heart poured into it – so much so that he’s feeling more grounded and confident than ever before, despite having battled OCD and depression through all his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New release, ‘Shipwrecked’, sees Neil Potter opening space for not simply peering into the mind of the narrator, who is struggling with the consequences of their illness, but rather also for a dual analysis; making way for listeners to see two sides of a partnership as it tears apart due to the sheer weight of turmoil. Both characters in the song are feeling as if they’re about to submerge; as if they can barely keep their heads above water. The narrator valiantly tries to climb out of the hole, but their partner refuses to change. Although they acknowledge their shortcomings, they nonetheless continue to drag all those around them into their maelstrom of chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening with bouncy guitar riffs that seem easygoing and lighthearted, ‘Shipwrecked’ soon changes its tone, the tempo surging, while shifting to a minor key, and the whole vibe feels as though we are plunged into the darkness of a swirling sea. Potter’s vocals cut through however, assured and firm: \u201cI always find myself back to land\u2026while you find yourself shipwrecked\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘Shipwrecked’ introduces a further string to Neil Potter’s bow, that of a visionary artist. He self-produced the clip, and with the same ability he uses in his music, he is able to translate his lyrics into a powerful visual, that centres on the journey of mental illness and the many battles and triumphs along the way. It will be instantly relatable to viewers who have experienced this – everyday people, knees pulled up in a foetal position, faces buried in their hands; slumped over, feeling alone and helpless. The music shifts however, and so does the imagery, and suddenly it’s seen that peace is not quite so unattainable as once thought. No longer is drowning an inevitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
