Hip Hop has given SERIOUS VOICE<\/a> healing and solace, and most importantly, it’s the vessel by which she spreads God’s Word. Inspired by powerful female artists, such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, and Nicki Minaj, young Brigitte \u201cSERIOUS VOICE\u201d James sought to \u201ctake over the rap game\u201d from an early age, despite not always having an easy time growing up on the tough streets – and often even tougher home – in Brooklyn. ’99 Problems’, the new single from SERIOUS VOICE, and featuring her son JSWAGG, sees her lay her truth bare, voicing the often hidden frustrations of navigating a world determined to hold her down.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

SERIOUS VOICE’s music has on Spike Lee\u2019s Netflix series, ‘She\u2019s Gotta Have It’, while she’s had her music videos showcased at SXSW. Additionally, she’s performed across New York City, gathering to her a loyal following. Her upcoming 7th studio album, however, ‘Tessa’s Daughter’, sees her like nothing ever before. She has transformed the grief she felt following the recent loss of her mother, and crafted a deeply personal, and vibrant, loving homage, honouring her mother’s life, and legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s no sugarcoating anything when it comes to SERIOUS VOICE – she’s not going to hide the fact that a faith-focussed life isn’t all sunshine and lollipops. There are temptations around every corner, and reasons to question God’s greater plan for our life. Teaming up with her husband MrC Live, who is also her manager and producer, she shines a light on those “reset moments” that are often faced by Christians, where it’s necessary to take a step back and adjust, recalibrate, and realign with the faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

’99 Problems’ has an echoing refrain from her son JSWAGG, cutting through the noise of modern life. The often hidden frustrations are there trying to hold her down, but she knows, despite all her struggles, that the “scripts don’t lie”. Her trust in God is all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with director Bronx Emcee, responsible for many of her music videos, the clip for ’99 Problems’ sees SERIOUS VOICE taking “staying clean” to a new level, as she spits her bars from within a gleaming white bathtub. As she calls upon God to wash off the impurities of sin, we see that every detail has been carefully chosen to reflect a sense of immaculateness – from the white robe and towel, to the glistening tap, and the silver jewellery. SERIOUS VOICE is telling her truth, her life, and her story, and her victory is assured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
