‘Flame To A Gaslight’ is the third single from Aldo, and serves as a love letter to the 1980s. Aldo, a rising star on Glasgow’s indie scene, released the track on the 22nd of August. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With heightened emotions and angst, ‘Flame To A Gaslight’ sees Aldo explore themes of alcohol addiction and substance abuse, and their use to numb pain. He confronts this with unflinching honesty, rendering it by way of a shimmering blend of indie pop, synth-pop, and indie rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Flame To A Gaslight’ brings forth imagery of the very best of the 80s, and could easily have found its way onto the soundtrack of the likes of ‘The Breakfast Club’, ’16 Candles’, or ‘Say Anything’ (the latter most famous for the scene featuring John Cusack holding a boombox aloft in a declaration of love for Diane). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the gritty music video which accompanies the track, director Daniel Blake captures the the dour city streets of Glasgow in the depths of evening, with Aldo lit up by red neon lights, as cars zoom by. Red features heavily in the clip, as we also see Aldo singing, silhouetted in black against a stark red background. His features are hidden in these scenes, as if it’s his innermost thoughts kept secret from the world, while in the street scenes he presents a different face to everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aldo, a nod to the Scottish nickname for Alan, draws his inspiration from the likes of The Cure, and The Blue Nile, while also paying homage to more contemporary artists such as Bleachers, and The 1975. He initially saw his music as a private outlet by which to traverse mental health and addiction issues, but it soon evolved into something more, and nowadays he has opened up, sharing his art with the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
