With his nostalgic electronic lo-fi funk sound, NYC artist Nick Vivid is set to release his latest album, ‘Volatile’, on the 24th of October this year, through MegaPlatinum Records. Ahead of this he’s dropped new single, ‘Volunteer’, and it’s every bit as groovy as you might imagine.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With ‘Volunteer’, Nick Vivid could just as easily have stepped out of the heady days of the 70s with his funky instrumental rhythms and Bee Gees-esque vocals. It’s certainly not disco, if that’s what you’re thinking though. The beat swaggers along as the muted sounds of the organ and the thrumming rhythms of the drum, gloriously supporting Vivid’s helium voice that almost transcends reality with its falsetto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listen to the lyrics however, and you are taken on a journey into Vivid’s mind, where he’s mulling over the fact of being taken for granted, for his generosity being taken advantage of. It’s a bittersweet story that brings the track out of the past and places it firmly in the here and now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nick Vivid takes a fully-DIY approach to his music, crafting most of his recording gear himself, including homemade guitar pedals and synth filters, as well as custom pre-amps, which he modelled after Giorgio Moroder’s Helios console. Additionally, he’s mixed it entirely to tape, which most certainly adds to the 70s flavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
