Liverpool artist Neil Potter started out back at the age of 14, when he first picked up a guitar, and he’s never looked back, saying, \u201cNot a day goes by without me at least doing something musical. It\u2019s all I\u2019ve ever dreamed of doing\u201d. Latest release, ‘Over The Hills’, feels like an uncovered Radiohead track, the kind of song that lingers in the back of the mind.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Potter has, over his career, lived many musical lives. From playing guitar and singing in touring prog rock bands, to training with some of the most renowned teachers and mentors around the world, and studying music at College and University, as well as performing live in solo and duo acts. He’s even founded his own music school, where he passes along his sage wisdom and compassionate support to students just like him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potter’s fascination with music colours every single thing he does, and he draws inspiration from across the musical spectrum. Lately, his sound has become even more uniquely informed sound, infused with fresh innovation, and he’s marking that with his debut record. It’s been nearly 20 years in the making, but Potter knew it was time, having felt grounded as a father, an educator, and most importantly, a creative.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New single, ‘Over The Hills’, is drawn from that album, and tells the relatable story of someone who’s been in a relationship that almost wrecked him. The narrator\u2019s lover walked away, and placed all of the blame on him, leaving him whirling, wondering how it all went wrong. Starting out with a slow and reflective electric guitar melody, it steps aside for a moment, allowing space for Potter’s vocals to pull the listeners towards him. Momentum builds as he works through the situation, and the instruments build, as he realises he possibly wasn’t the one at fault at all, but rather, he’s escaped from her manipulation, and it’s been a blessing in disguise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘Over The Hills’ continues the story of the song without taking anything away from it and allowing the listener to consider it in their own minds. We see Potter and his band performing on stage, adorned with only a few lights, invoking a moody atmosphere. Potter is entirely at ease, allowing his vocals to soar and his musical talent to speak for itself. It’s a great introduction to this artist and his sound, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
