William Odell Hughes had the chief part of his education on the streets of his hometown of Detroit, and, after meeting jazz pianist Pamela Wise one day on a bus on the East Side, back in the 80s, forged a collaboration that launched his music career as singer songwriter, producer and composer. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Hughes channels the sweet sounds of the 70s and 80s into his music, and alongside Wise and her husband, the jazz icon, Wendell Harrison, his debut album, ‘Cruisin’ is a stunning showcase of those sounds, with its soulful grooves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hughes’ latest release, ‘Loving You Was Easy’ (Remix), is a smooth groove of a track that, at first glance appears to be a love song in the traditional sense – until you realise that the title is “was”, not “is” easy. Singing with rich velvety vocals, the longing he feels for a lost love is undeniable. In remixing the track, it was given sped up, high pitched backing vocals, giving it a more contemporary edge. The track is unmistakably an absolute groove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘Loving You Was Easy’ (Remix), sees Hughes take centre stage as he performs alongside a chorus of puppets, robed as if in a church choir. Later, we see puppet couples as they find their way thorough betrayal and heartbreak. The whimsical puppets were created in collaboration with Sylvia Gordon, of Elite Starr Presents, a fellow creative and friend of Hughes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
