Ahead of the 30 June release of their upcoming album, ‘You Are Never Alone’, through Vfib Recordings, Bicentennial Drug Lord combine forces with Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman) on their new single, ‘Iggy Pop’. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bicentennial Drug Lord comprises three songwriters and longtime friends, John Daniels, Rick Donner, and Alan Weatherhead. The trio’s sound combines their love for indie rock, Americana, and Echo & The Bunnymen – specifically their Ocean Rain era. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Iggy Pop’ isn’t so much about the legendary singer, but rather holding onto the things that you remember by listening to the music of Pop and\/or his band, The Stooges. The subject of the song is feeling their age, they’re too old to get away with wearing a Catholic school skirt anymore, they’ve got kids of their own and they feel like they should be a bit more responsible. Cut back on the smokes, cut back on the drink, stop the drugs, and so on. But then, you’ve got the music and the memories, so you put on an Iggy Pop record, and, just every once in a while, enjoy taking some time out to relive how it used to be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band’s strummed guitars, the smooth drums and percussion, and the vocals – lead and harmonious backing vocals – work together to bring a nostalgic vibe to ‘Iggy Pop’. It doesn’t sound so much like Iggy himself, but rather Elvis Costello, or The Cars. There’s a stretched out outro that echoes long after the instrumentals cease, almost long enough for the musicians to have already packed up and left the studio. But this is a great opportunity to close your eyes, and lose yourself in the memories of those days long past. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
