We recently introduced you to Gwyn<\/a>, the star of the interactive mystery series, ‘Dreamcrusher’. Now Gwyn has given us some of her time to talk to us about ‘I Beat U 2 It’, and what’s coming up next.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Growing up, did you always know you wanted to be a musician?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh God no, not at all! I didn\u2019t discover that I could sing until high school. I signed up for music class thinking it would be an easy credit, and I had something. My music teacher, Ruth Elliot, pushed me to break out of my shell and embrace performing. If that had never happened, I think maybe I would have been a nurse or a vet – something that could help people or animals. It\u2019s funny how life has other plans for you, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘I Beat U 2 It’ is vulnerable and raw – tell us a little bit about your writing process. Were you inspired by a specific experience or memory?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, that\u2019s a very specific question isn\u2019t it? My lyrics are always open to interpretation by my fans, but YES, there are lyrics in ‘I Beat U 2 It’ that are me thumbing my nose at situations or people in my past that I\u2019m not afraid of anymore. Gwyn is me and I am Gwyn…finally! I don’t want to do things the way others have tried to box me into doing. What\u2019s the point in being creative if you don\u2019t have freedom in that creation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who could you not have done the ‘I Beat U 2 It’ music video without? What was your collaboration process like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, my manager. She\u2019s the best. She understood exactly how personal this song was to me and fought to let my vision lead the way. She\u2019d pull me aside between takes and remind me, \u201cIt\u2019s your story, Gwyn, trust yourself.\u201d I felt completely safe being vulnerable with her. She\u2019s the one who found our director, Anna Ferrante. The label gave us some typical names, but none of their treatments were connected. I knew I had a better understanding of what I wanted to say, and Cassidy finding Anna was just perfect. Anna got it immediately. Our collaboration was like creative therapy\u2014we just fed off each other\u2019s ideas until we nailed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have any interesting or fun stories from the filming process you can share? Where was the ‘I Beat U 2 It’ music video filmed?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s this scene where I\u2019m supposed to dramatically walk away in slow-motion on a rooftop at night, and I\u2019m holding these small light orbs throughout the take. With them being so bright and so close to my face, I would see color spots in my vision. So when I was doing the walkway, I ended up tripping over a lighting cable because I literally couldn\u2019t see. Everyone thought I\u2019d hurt myself, but I just burst out laughing and ruined a perfect take!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re loving your outfits in the music video. What role does fashion and color play in your artistry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fashion is how I tell a story visually, right? It\u2019s about identity and mood, especially colour. I chose bold, vibrant colours for ‘I Beat U 2 It’ because it\u2019s about reclaiming power, reclaiming joy. I love it when my clothes match the emotion of the song. It\u2019s like wearable music! That\u2019s a pretty good clothing line idea. I need to write that down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you balance personal storytelling with creating something universal for listeners?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I write from my own experiences, but I try to tap into emotions we all share – heartbreak, empowerment, hope. If I\u2019m honest enough about what I\u2019ve been through, chances are someone out there feels the same way. It\u2019s about being vulnerable enough to connect beyond just myself. You also have to reach a point where you aren\u2019t afraid anymore. Speak your truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In your opinion, what sets your artistry apart from others in the pop genre?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think what makes my music unique is my honesty. I don’t try to polish things so they’re perfect or curated – I\u2019m messy, flawed, real. I embrace those imperfections because life isn’t neat, you know? I think fans resonate with that authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the album release, what\u2019s coming up next for you? What can fans look forward to?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, a tour is coming! I get to kick that off in my hometown. We\u2019ll be releasing dates soon. It is definitely the biggest tour I\u2019ve done to date. Even with my former band, Red Wreckage, nothing compares to this. I want to meet the fans who\u2019ve supported me face-to-face. And definitely more visuals\u2014I have so many stories left to tell, so more music videos and collaborations are coming. The ride is just getting started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
