A master of songs which captivate and fully absorb the listener, MattO returns with his characteristic soulful storytelling in new single, ‘It’s Not Your Life’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Recorded at Lakehouse Recording Studios in Asbury Park, New Jersey, ‘It\u2019s Not Your Life’ tells the all too familiar story of succession, with MattO singing from the perspective of a child who feels caught up in not having much choice in life, as his father passes along his profession. Filled to the brim with gentle guitar strums, funky piano chords, and laid-back vocals, ‘It\u2019s Not Your Life’ has what feels like a simple melody, however it is anything but. The meaning and impact of the song will have a different meaning depending on who’s listening: in younger audiences, they may be feeling urges to rebel; to kick up against being told that their \u201cdestiny counts little\u201d because they are \u201cpart of something much bigger\u201d, a cog in the machine, so to speak. On the other hand, older listeners may look back on a time when the choice was laid out for them, and think fondly of it, compared to their current world of unlimited options. Regardless of the listener, there’s no doubting that this is an incredible first single from MattO’s upcoming album, ‘Drifting Down’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video for ‘It\u2019s Not Your Life’ features a live acoustic version of the track, with MattO collaborating with his decades-long musical partners, renowned guitarist Luca Meneghello and percussionist Sandro de Bellis. The stripped back, intimate visuals, shot in Milan, provide the ideal arena for MattO\u2019s soul-stirring story, enhanced by the minimalist black-and-white clips, which keep the video grounded, while evoking a raw, emotional experience. Directed by Marcello Bumbica, the video mirrors the aesthetic of MattO’s previous video, ‘I\u2019m a Man<\/a>‘, and sets the stage for more stunning visuals to come from this incredible artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
