Salt Ashes talks to us about her new single, ‘Bad Things Right’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind ‘Bad Things Right’? What message were you hoping to convey with this track?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inspiration came from personal experience of being in school and people accusing me of doing things I hadn\u2019t done. It got to the point that I thought about doing all those bad things as people thought I\u2019d done them anyway. Be the villain if I\u2019m already the villain in their eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video, directed by Katya Ganfeld, features striking imagery like a church engulfed in flames. What was the creative process behind this visual concept, and how does it enhance the song\u2019s message?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea behind the video actually evolved while we were filming. The original idea was \u201cmessing with stereotypes\u201d. I started with this strong idea of nuns doing bad things but then someone dressed in more devilish clothing doing really angelic things but during the filming the imagery became more symbolic and we focused less on telling a start to finish story and more on creating really cool and original visuals that represents the feeling of the song.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you approach balancing vulnerability and rebellion in your music?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have no idea – I didnt realise I was haha. I write whatever I\u2019m feeling and experiencing so that changes all the time. Sometimes that vulnerable and sometimes it\u2019s different.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since your 2016 debut, your sound has evolved significantly. How do you feel your artistry has grown over the years, particularly with ‘Bad Things Right’?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think a big part of that evolution is age and experience. That inevitably comes out in the sound. But interestingly I think Bad Things Right has a definite nod to my earlier work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re known for your electric stage presence and have toured with a wide range of artists. How do live performances shape your connection with your audience?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahhh I love it. This is honestly the best part of being an artist for me. It\u2019s the only time I get to see people\u2019s reactions live and how my music affects them. It\u2019s really a beautiful experience every time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s been the most memorable moment from your time on stage, and how has it influenced your approach to performing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour I did with Goldfrapp was incredible. It was humbling playing to full audiences at such prestigious venues that had never heard my music and being able to win them round by the end of my set. Super magical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With ‘Bad Things Right’ out now, what\u2019s next for you? Can we expect more new music or live shows in the near future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m currently on a vocal hiatus as I\u2019m having a lot unexplained issues that we are trying to solve. In the meantime I\u2019m releasing music that I wrote a long time ago, that I never thought I\u2019d release – Bad things right is one of those actually. So I\u2019m in the really interesting space where I\u2019m putting music out I once thought wasn\u2019t good enough to release.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you hope listeners take away from ‘Bad Things Right’ and your music in general?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just to be the person you want to be and try not to care what other people think of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
