Rick Trevino established himself as a balladeer country artist 30 years ago when he first topped the Country Charts with his song, ‘She Can’t Say I Didn’t Cry’. The reflective nature of his music positioned him as unusually sensitive for that genre, and, 26 years after his number 1 smash hit, ‘Running Out Of Reasons To Run’, the follow up to his debut, he’s released, according to Billboard, the Song of the Summer, with new single, ‘The Ride’.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

‘The Ride’ is both autobiographical and a word to the wise, advice to a younger listener. Trevino is still thinking and feeling as deeply as he ever did, and he tells listeners that the journey through life will have its highs and lows – sometimes it’s a roller coaster, sometimes it’s a merry-go-round. Whatever happens though, so long as you stay on the ride, the rewards will be plenty; serenity, peace, and wisdom, plus plenty more, will be available to those who hang on, no matter how rough it gets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trevino’s signature country sound is all here, with its strong beats, tight arrangement, and sumptuous melody. He’s joined on harmonies by his daughter Presley, and the result is a thing of beauty. Likewise, the music video, directed by Gilbert “Gibby” Villasenor, fully captures Rick’s drive and passion. Shot in South Texas, we see Rick in the first half of the video, on his own. Later he’s joined by his wife, his soulmate. Scenes of his life are shown: his marriage, his music, the first events of their children, and his wife’s battle with breast cancer. There’s been merry-go-rounds and roller coasters, but Rick has held on the whole time and taken the bends of the ride in his stride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
